MARS HILL, N.C.— Montreat College's women's tennis team went on the road to take on the Mars Hill University Lions in a team dual match Thursday afternoon. The Cavaliers beat the hosts in a tight contest by a score of 4-3.
 
In doubles play, Montreat won the first match thanks to Chiharu Ito and Clara Roman. They took their match, 6-3. Ana Marija Horvacki and Yamile Cuiza lost in their doubles contest, 6-4. Montreat forfeited the last doubles match, giving Mars Hill a 1-0 edge heading into singles action.
 
Both teams played with five players throughout the competition. Mars Hill forfeited a singles match, evening up the score at 1-1 with five singles pairings left to play. Ito won her match by a score of 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1. Roman played at No. 2 and lost in a three-set contest, 6-7, 7-5, 10-7. Cuiza triumphed 6-4 in both of her sets. Horvacki lost in her singles competition, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 5, Kathryn Salazar swept her opponent 6-0 in both sets to hand Montreat the win with a team score of 4-3.
 
Roman had the most games won on the day for the Cavaliers with 19. Behind her, Ito had 18, winning both matches she played in. Cuiza claimed 16 games on the day. Salazar concluded with 12 game triumphs, and Horvacki finished with 10 victories.
 
Montreat wraps up its fall slate with a team exhibition match at Milligan University. The competition will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25 in Milligan, Tenn.
