BELMONT, N.C.— The Montreat College women's tennis team traveled just over 100 miles towards Charlotte to face the Belmont Abbey College Crusaders in a team match. The Cavaliers lost the match by a score of 4-2. With the defeat, the Cavs fell to 0-3 on the year.
In the match, the Cavaliers forfeited a doubles pairing to the home team. In the two matches that were played,
Chiharu Ito and
Ainhoa Ordonez won their match 7-5 while
Clara Roman and
Annika Rojas lost 6-3.
The Cavs also forfeited two singles matches on the day. The singles duals that occurred resulted in two wins, a loss and an unfinished match due to darkness for Montreat. Ito won her singles match 6-2. Roman won her match after set scores of 6-4 and 6-2. Ordonez's match concluded in a loss by scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Rojas' was the unfinished match. She lost the first set 6-3 and was tied 6-6 in the second set when it was called.
Despite the defeat, the Cavaliers scored their first team points of the campaign. The Cavs won a season-high three sets across the singles matches. Ito won both matches she was a part of. Roman's two singles set wins tied Ito.
On deck for the Cavaliers, they host the Johnson University Royals in their first home match of the campaign on Wednesday. First serve is scheduled for noon.
