BANNER ELK, N.C.— Montreat's cycling team made the 90-minute trip north on Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Collegiate MTB Challenge at Lees-McRae College. Three Cavaliers competed in eight total events during the race weekend. Each rider collected a podium finish in one event across the competition.
Clara Overholser raced in two events: the short track cross country and the cross country disciplines. She finished first among seven participants in the short track cross country race while competing in the women's C class. The freshman from Brevard, N.C. placed 38
th of 39 riders in the women's A cross country event.
Sophomore
Sarah McCallister raced in three events and finished second of four in the women's B dual slalom event. In the cross country event, she placed 26
th out of 39 participants in the A discipline. She finished 33
rd out of 44 riders in the short track cross country race, also in the A class.
Jacksonville, Fla. native
Lucas Zeringue raced in three events as well. His second-place finish in the men's C class short track cross country event was the highlight of his weekend. He beat 17 other riders in the race. He finished 23
rd with a time of 1:55.494 in the downhill event. The A discipline saw 49 racers. He also finished 32
nd out of 47 riders in the dual slalom A division event.
"It was a great weekend of racing at the SECC Championships this weekend," said head coach
Doug Cline. "The team faced some rainy and muddy conditions and grabbed a few podiums along the way."

The Collegiate MTB Challenge at Lees-McRae marked the final event of the mountain bike season for the Montreat College cycling team.
