JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.— The Montreat women's golf team traveled to Johnson City, Tenn. on Tuesday for the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout, a one-day, two-round tournament at the Johnson City Country Club. Competing against a field of six teams, the Cavaliers ended fifth with a total score of 742.
Montreat's golfers combined for a 365 during the initial 18 holes. The Cavs then came back with a score of 377 to wrap up the tournament. Overall, the Cavaliers finished 29 strokes better than sixth place but 72 strokes back of fourth place.
Hannah Stewart and
Reese Coltrane tied for the best finish by a Montreat golfer on Tuesday. Out of 34 participants, the Cav duo concluded in a tie for 23
rd. Coltrane tallied 12 pars across her 36 holes played, while Stewart turned in 10 pars. A native of Lincolnton, N.C., Coltrane carded a 90 in the opening round and a 92 during her second turn through the course. Stewart needed three additional strokes compared to Coltrane through her first 18 holes (93), but she registered Montreat's best round of the day with an 89 to follow up.
Entering the clubhouse third amongst her teammates,
Torie Yeomans finished 28
th overall on the individual leaderboard. The senior racked up seven pars to score 91 and 98. Freshman
Sara Rothrock was just one spot back in a tie for 29
th. The lone Cavalier to secure a birdie on the day, Rothrock shot 100 and 98.
Abbey Coyle finished up the tournament for Montreat, placing 31
st with rounds of 91 and 110. The William Henry Harrison High School graduate accrued nine pars across her 36 holes of golf.

Montreat returns to action on April 14-15 for the AAC Direct Qualifier at Governors Towne Club in Acworth, Ga.
